Trash Disposal

Trash Pickā€“Up and Information

Our trash service is American Disposal Services.

Trash pickup is on Monday and Thursday mornings.

Recycling pickup is Monday morning.

Residents may place trash or recyclables out as early as 5 p.m. the night before. Please have your items curbside by 6:00am on pickup day.

Residents can provide their own trash cans or contact ADS for a container. Personal containers must have lids that are secure. Please put your house number on your container. Home Depot in Reston has these containers at approximately these prices as of Jan. 10, 2011:

Bin for inside coat closet: $8 Example of bin in closet
Trash Can with rollers: $16 Large roller trash bin: $30 High-quality (tough) large roller bin: $70

Recyclables: Please contact ADS for containers for your use.

Please write your house number on the containers. Containers cannot be stored in your front yard. If you store them in the backyard, please be sure to secure the lid to help us avoid rodent and insect infestation.

Oversized Items

ADS will pick up oversized items such as furniture, appliances, wallboards, and similar contruction materials. However, the regular truck is unable to stow these items. A good rule of thumb is any solid object with at least one dimension greater than 4 feet is probably too large for the trucks.

ADS will pick these items up only if you call in advance. Please arrange pick up of these items before you place them outside by calling ADS at 703.368.0500. Please do not just place the item outside and make someone else make the call for you.

ADS will also pickup appliances for a small fee that must be paid prior to placing the items out pick-up. Any appliances left outside for pickup with paying the fee first will result in a $50 violation.

Time for a Trip to the Dump

These items must be taken to the I-66 Transfer Station located at 4618 West Ox Road, Fairfax, VA. You can find out the hours of operation and other information at the transfer station web site. Items that ADS cannot pick up:

  • Batteries
  • Propane Tanks
  • Paint cans
  • Oil
  • Flammable materials
  • Toxic materials
  • Tires
  • Tree Stumps
